Born in Houston, Texas, Jason Barrera discovered his passion and love for music at an early age. At 5 years old he began to play guitar, although
this instrument, standing up, was as tall as himself. At 7 years of age, he took up drums since his parents purchased him a small set for Christmas.
Nobody knew what was in store next, but God had some more talent to be laid upon this young child's shoulders. He was 8 years old when he
began to play the piano. At ten, this boy from Texas was a full-time pianist at his father's local church.
Gospel music has had a huge impact on Jason's life. To this day, it is very important to him and his beliefs. His music ministry has included the
following houses of worship, Lakewood Church (Piano for John Osteen), Elim Church (Drums, Piano/Organ, Vocals), Agape Christian Academy
(Worship Leader, Choir & Music Director), Upper Room Ministries Church (Piano), Pasadena Blvd. Baptist Church (Piano/Organ), Victory Outreach
(Drums, Piano), Texas Prison Ministry (Guitar & Keyboards) and including Live Television performance on The Daystar Network with the Houston
Celebration segment (Vocals/Piano).
By his mid-teens he learned to play cello, from intermediate to high school, and on through college with the local philharmonic. Classical music for
Jason, he says, " is a whole new experience and enjoyment. For someone who has not had the pleasure and/or opportunity to be a part of an
orchestra, they would probably not understand the real ingredients and measurements it takes to create a beautifully arranged and moving piece of
fine art."
Jason really enjoys blues and rock due to his love for electric guitar. He boldly started by inviting himself on stage with local bands and artists. It
wasn't long after that he began to receive calls for gigs and auditions. He says, "what a great thing, to do what you love all your life and get paid for it?
This Rocks!" Later, he realizes, "it is not always that easy in the music industry; it takes hard work and paying many dues, but why sit back and waste
talent some people would die to have."
Jason joined local Texas artist, Patrick Murphy, as his keyboardist, in the summer of 1997. Jason Barrera has also played/performed for other
artists/bands such as, David Glenn, Dennis Kitchen, Misbehavin', Randy Meadows, Doug Supernaw, Moses Rangel, James Lann, Mark Chestnutt,
Joni Jack, The Kendricks, Al White, Husker Row, Britt Ennis with The Posse, Lee Johnson & Texas Squeeze Band, Brian Sacco, Drywater Band,
Little Bobbie Douglas, Dixie Trahan, Flashback, The Tearjerkers, Austin, Isaac Satterwhite, Laurie Hayes, Keith Gilley, Rob Austin, Lynn & Keith
Logan with The Edge Band, Jerry Hart & Southern Way, Seth Candan, Cherokee Country Band, and Audio Rodeo. Jason has opened for
artists/bands such as David Allen Coe, The Wilkinsons, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Gene Watson, Darryl Worley, Corey Morrow,
John Anderson, John Conlee, Ronnie Milsap, Asleep at the Wheel, Charlie Robison, Johnny Rodriguez, Miranda Lambert, Johnny Lee, Brooks &
Dunn, Wayne Toups, Diamond Rio, Joe Nichols, Ricochet, Rambler, Perfect Stranger, BR549, Rhett Akins, Trick Pony, Rushlow, Gary Allan, The
Marshall Tucker Band, Kentucky Headhunters, and Pat Green.
Jason has a great sense for music, he's a fast learner and plays by ear exceptionally well. If you haven't heard his voice, you are missing out. This
man brings heart and soul to his music and you can definitely feel it in his voice.
